What to Wear
Tarka's Whitewater Journey will provide you with the necessary equipment for your journey down the Menominee River. Complimentary gear includes helmets, life jackets, and paddles. All other clothing and personal items are your responsibility to either bring along or rent. We do rent out certain river specific gear, which is top of the line, well maintained, and thoroughly cleaned after every use.
Summer's Warm Sunnny Days:
Water to drink.
Swimsuits
Shorts (nylon or other quick drying material)
T-shirt (to avoid sunburned shoulders)
Sunglasses with Chums/Croakies or a retainer string
Sunscreen of at least SPF 15 rating
Baseball Hat
River shoes that will not fall off in swift water and are okay to get dirty
Spring, Rainy, Cool and Autumn:
For cooler weather,
A fleece or wool winter hat or beanie or wool socks… NO COTTON.
Wetsuits, splash jackets and river shoes (available for a small rental fee)
A swimsuit and synthetic layers to wear underneath your wetsuit.
River shoes that will not fall off in swift water and are okay to get dirty
A synthetic non-cotton layer to wear under your splash jacket, such as fleece that will continue to keep you warm while wet… NO COTTON.
What Not To Wear
Flip flops or ‘crocs’, cowboy boots, high heels, etc. Wear shoes that will stay on your feet in swift moving water and are okay to get dirty or wet.
Heavy clothing that will weigh you down in the river such as sweats or jeans.
Clothing that impedes your freedom of movement like leather or formal wear.
Your personal life jacket that you use for fishing or jet skiing.
Smaller personal items such as jewelry, keys, electronics, and wallets.
